Dreams of Paradise

kids fashion editorial
Dreams of Paradise was the theme of our last shooting together with Maru. It took place back in March (and we even had another shooting in between already) and we wanted to capture the feeling of summer. The warmth, light and energy…

This kids fashion editorial is the result of bringing together small brands and designers under one theme. It is about sharing and to create beautiful content together that is shared by everyone involved.

And it is beautiful and very rewarding to see everyone supporting each other. Being part of the big picture.

BlanBlin – natural clothes for kids

BlanBlin
Good Morning! Hello Monday! How are you all?
I stumbled upon these images not long ago and was so inspired by them. I love the ‘zen’ feeling and the light. How the colours match perfectly and how everything looks so soft and easy.

BlanBlin, from Spain, was founded by Blanca a mum of three girls. Blanca loves colours, creativity, aesthetics and the environment. Therefore, in addition to the natural fabrics she works, she puts special interest in the dyeing of the garments too.

First she creates the eco-friendly colour and then she works to achieve the desired tone. Both things – the naturalness and the colour of the fabrics – give the garments a very special character.

‘My role as a mum made me think continuously about the “perfect outfit”. That piece that you would have always dreamed about wearing as a child. Or maybe you did have it and you kept as a treasure until it was gone. Almost naturally BlanBlin was born.’

Every season is inspired by a specific topic and for this summer it is NATURAL. It is the brands’ fourth collection and the inspiration came from nature’s colour scheme, shapes and textures. You can find earthy tones like clay and limestone as well as natural tones like dune or ocean blue and cactus green.

BlanBlin tells stories through their collections. Sharing their feelings, connecting with the rest of the world and supporting the ‘slow’ movement. Everything is made in Spain with high quality natural fabrics and eco-friendly dyes.

‘Everything around us has a reason. Colours hide a meaning and textures tell stories. If you pay attention to your environment and take time for the details, you will enter a new reality.’

I find this all very inspiring and interesting. The story, the passion to produce something that will last and the details. The softness of natural fabrics, the nonchalant aspect and the love.

PS: Love the knitted jumpers!

Picnic with an owl, a unicorn and some ducks

affenzahn
We have such amazing weather here the last weeks that we spent most of our free time in the park or at the beach. You really do have to enjoy every minute of this at like 500%. Because nobody knows how long it will last.

That is why we also transferred some of our meal times to the outside as well. Especially lunch. And really – who does not like a fun picnic?

And with their new backpacks, that we received from Affenzahn, Leonor and Josephine were even more keen to get packing and out of the house.

We welcomed a unicorn and an owl to our family and all I can tell you is: The welcome was very warm! These animal backpacks are like good friends that accompany you to any adventure. Moreover they are super cute, fun and also very functional! (may I mention here that Affenzahn is from Germany so the functional part is a given… yes, I need to play my German card from time to time).

Every backpack has a stick-out tongue with a name label (big hit here). And also reflective straps, soft shoulder pads and adjustable chest straps which makes them very comfortable to wear. There are lots of pockets including secret pockets that you will need to discover yourself and they are showerproof and dirt-repellent.

Equally important: The company uses fabrics that are made of up to 50 % recycled PET bottles. All materials are certified by the bluesign system, which makes sure that harmful chemicals are avoided along the entire production process. Thumbs up!

These cheeky rucksacks come in two formats. The smallest is for one to three year olds (like our owl). And the larger one for three to five year olds (like the unicorn). Again, the design of each bag focuses on maximum attention to ergonomics and they are made with the greatest respect for the environment.

Olivia Owl & Ursula Unicorn

Which one is your favourite?

Oh and about the ducks, they were running around in the park. And wanted a share of the picnic. But Josephine was not too impressed in sharing her food with them…

Kaleidoscope – Conscious Kids Wear

Kaleidoscope Conscious Kids Wear
I met Anna in January this year during Pitti Bimbo. And since I feel a little bored by the industry at the moment (a wide topic by itself but Linda summarized it pretty well, short: I would love to see brands as well as shops taking more risk again) this brand definitely did catch my attention.

And you know I love to support new brands. Small brands. It is the essence of what I do here on Paul & Paula.

Therefore I am inviting you to welcome Kaleidoscope here today. Born in Porto, Portugal the label began a metamorphosis for a more conscious and global attitude. Believing that we should find new ways of thinking and making things.

‘We should always question this ephemeral and disposable culture and think on development and production solutions for a better and sustainable future. Kaleidoscope is a sustainable and conscious children’s wear clothing brand for cosmopolitan and relaxed kids up to 8 years old. Classic designs interpreted in a funny and contemporary way with the finest ecological materials.’

All together I so love the heavy linen dresses that will grow with your child for years to come. Starting with a little oversize, long dress look. And step by step getting a bit shorter. And the looks for boys are super as well with details and great colours.

And the fusion of traditional designs (Portugese kids fashion can be still is lots of ruffles and gender stereotype colours) with a cosmopolitan allure really does the trick. Modern, easy, eco-chic and yet you can see the classic design work and the long history of fabrics in Portugal in every garment.

Pitti Bimbo 87

Pitti Bimbo 87

Next month I will be off to Florence again. And a visual and virtual spectacle will be waiting for me. Stripes that move, sway and cross again and again. The trade show will elicit new horizons of perception and perspectives on reality. A visual and virtual spectacle.

Because the theme for this summer is: P.O.P – Pitti Optical Power

No black and white in Fortezza da Basso but rather a kaleidoscope of full colour patterns to make living interiors playful and hypnotic between 21-23 June 2018.

The world of children’s wear will meet in Florence again and I am so curious to see what our kids will wear in summer 2019.
Pitti Bimbo in Florence is the world’s top kids fashion trade show. The kids wear business gathers to see new season’s trends, kids catwalk shows and to attend fabulous events and parties.

A lot of new exhibitors will show and the event schedule is packed. As usual!
