A dreamy family home in Paris

A dreamy family home in Paris

Bonjour. We are staying in France for today as well. And we are visiting this dreamy family home in Paris.

Inhabited by parents Vincent and Blanche, who live here together with their children Romy and Vadim. Of course, the moment I saw the name Romy (my eldest has the same name just in case you don’t know) I was even a little bit more in love.

The apartment is on the ground floor of a building in the 9th district of Paris. These ground floor places are usually pretty dark so I guess the couple was really lucky and happy when they scored this space.

And you can clearly say that the family loves a good decor, thrifting through Vintage markets and shops as well as mixing designer pieces with decor from the more wallet friendly stops. An art that the French are especially good at. (fashion wise as well)

Have a look into this warm, friendly, modern as well as stylish place:

We may not like McDonalds, but that M sign could very well sit in my house too!

Adding a touch of India to your home

Adding a touch of India to your home

Hello! Fresh back from Paris and starting the week with something for the whole family that combines the French chic and traditional Indian roots.

You may have noticed that I am writing more about interiors as well as accessories and design brands at the moment. I will tickle that a bit more when I will write my round up about the fairs I just visited. But as a whole: I find children’s fashion a little bit boring at the moment. That is why I am looking a bit further and share more from the other worlds of the industry.

And the funny thing about today’s brand is, that I follow Jamini for a very long time on my Instagram. And only just realised that I never wrote about them here. x facepalm x

Jamini is a lifestyle brand that has roots in India and is based in Paris. Usha, the founder, brings together two great and fascinating cultures to create a unique range of handcrafted lifestyle pieces.

Discover the mix of centuries-old techniques to highlight, modernity, contemporary French chic, colours and patterns. A peek into the Indian culture and a glance of France.

I love it!

Usha grew up in India, worked in Hong Kong and moved to Paris to start a family. And the birth of her first child made her realize the urgent need to create a bridge with her roots, India.

And then Jamini was born. Out of a passion to showcase the elegant beauty of textile traditions and the skills of expert artisans from her country.

Today you can find beautiful home accessories that combine modern graphics with traditional know-how. Each piece is produced in India in an eco-friendly, fair-trade spirit. Cotton, woven silk, embroideries, hand-printed fabrics – the materials are beautiful and the designs are delicate and original.

20 marvellous things for your weekend!

Paul & Paula blog
Bonjour! I am off to Paris this afternoon, for a week end of Playtime fun. My reports from the shows will follow soon. Hopefully I will find some new and exciting brands and collections. And I hope to see some of the snow that covered Paris this week.

But before I will head out, I have this Friday list of things that caught my eye for you. Please enjoy!

Also, I started to write the ‘after the move’ article this week. Bullet points so far. But I really want to share some details, share that these changes affect everyone and that we also deal with emotional roller-coasters and children looking for their place in the world.

kids room design
VT Wonen put together a few design classics for the kids room and did a fab room styling. Love it.

Luna Luna is where princess dreams and ballerina wishes come true.

baby cashmere blanket
Beautiful ultra soft 100% baby cashmere blanket. Made from the finest Mongolian cashmere yarn, a lovely keepsake for years to come.

I love turquoise and it makes such a great summer accessories colour. That necklace is on my wishlist!

linen dress girls
Beautiful linen clothes by Mama Lama.

I love yellow. Especially on boys. And especially for Spring. Sweater love!

Cherries are the fruit of the season. And this cherry print dress from Bonpoint is not just really pretty, it has an OK price tag (for Bonpoint) too.

waldorf doll play set studio escargot
These play sets from Studio Escargot are too cute for words.

Magic Night Light. Rechargeable, turns itself off automatically after 45 minutes and it has a replaceable light filter: either white light or star-shaped. And you can create your own filter with drawings or images. WANT!

Sweet rainbow necklace – makes for a lovely little gift.

Brrrr, it is cold outside. Skin Food is my go to at the moment. And yours?

Embroidery hoop art for the children’s room

Paul & Paula: The bestembroidery hoops for the children's room

I have a new thing. Embroidery hoop art.

You probably know that I love embroidery in any form. And changing from the traditional prints and posters, these hoops are a lovely addition to decorate walls. Actually, I think, these look best when mixed with some of those prints and posters. Because the mix of modern and heirloom is still the best.

And do you know why I love those hoops?

There is something poetic about them. Something delicate and elegant. You can buy a lot of patterns and get creative. Which is wonderful in our quick world. And often the projects are not huge and rather easy even for beginners. (and they look very sophisticated!) A project that reminds you to slow down and that will decorate your little ones room. Love it!

Therefore, I gathered a few of my favourite embroidery hoop artists. Some are ready to be hung, some need to be stitched. You decide:

Paul & Paula: The bestembroidery hoops for the children's room

1. Simple yet stunning butterfly embroidery hoop.

2. French Mango. Colourful and fun embroidery art from a French mum living in Chicago.

3. Embroidery kits with little animal friends. Simple and sweet.

4. L O V E embroidery kit that includes absolutely everything to make this yourself.

Paul & Paula: The bestembroidery hoops for the children's room

1. Marta Insa from Aro designs and embroiders every hoop herself. I love the sweet faces. A beautiful addition to any children’s room.

2. Hand embroidery designs that are delightful and so pretty. I am sure you will embroider those with a big smile because they just make happy faces.

3. A fox for the woodland nursery!

4. Very sweet floral face pdf pattern that even beginners can master.

Paul & Paula: The bestembroidery hoops for the children's room

1. Sleeping foxes. Calm, sweet and a very easy embroidery that is great for beginners. It comes as a kit that includes all tools.

2. A good fairytale needs a stunning mushroom. Perfect for all the nature inspired nurseries and kids rooms.

3. Hand embroidered magnificent swallow that is ready to decorate your wall.

4. Such a stunning pattern. It is a pdf that you can download immediately and start your work. This Floral Field would look amazing in any room.

And if you love these hoops, you will love Momo und Carla too.

A bright family home in the Finnish countryside

bright family home in the Finnish countryside

Architect Willem van Bolderen, and his wife Miia, a product manager live in this Finnish countryside home with their
daughter Tilda. More precisley, they live in Herttoniemi, a neighbourhood and a suburb of Helsinki.

The area is a great compromise between nature and city. The metro takes you to downtown Helsinki in just 10 minutes and you are surrounded by water and the courtyside.

It is a very pure, light filled and clean house with some great details and clever planning.

Like this lovely brick wall that is a great contrast to the sleek plywood kitchen, designed by Willem himself. Those cute leather handles are self-made by the way, from leather belts.

This is Tilda’s room. Also designed by Willem. A built in cabinet and bed combo that covers the whole wall and therefore leaves lots of space to play on the floor.

Look at these flexible ropes of the bed, intended for sail boats. So clever! Tilda cannot fall out during the night and when the sun is shining in, they create a lovely sun ray pattern. Win Win!

Very pure, clever and sleek. I like the use of space and combination of modern and original features of the house. Something that keeps the soul of the space and brings in some fresh air.

What do you think?
