Bunky bed for Magis

London-based australian born designer Marc Newson created a sturdy, secure sleep and play environment for kids. The Bunky bed.

“Kids like to have fun. they like their privacy and they like to feel safe – preferably all at the same time. bunky provides this environment for them. it is cozy and exciting – it is their very own space in which they can climb, hide and sleep.”

All surfaces are smooth with no sharp edges, and the material is highly durable and easy to clean. The parts can be separated to make two beds. The Bunky features a cool ladder for reaching the top bunk and also comes in a single bed version.

Right now it’s a concept and made for Magis but I do hope it will be available very soon!

From toddler to junior – easy bedroom transformation

petite amelie teen room
My youngest is 7, turning 8 in about three months. And as much as see her as the little one in the family, the truth is: She is not that small anymore. On the contrary; tall and quite a bit ahead of her peers by being the youngest of 4. And very cheeky!

No more toddler in the house, and, I admit it, I love it. I so enjoy being out of the small kids years where I had to bring all of them to everything. These days we can have nice and longer discussions, lay responsibilities upon them, get a clear yes or no for an answer, and do not need to bring a complete household when out and about.

However, growing means needs are changing, and not only clothes become too small. Luckily, one of our favourite interior brands for small people, Petite Amelie, started to grow as well and now offers a fabulous collection for older children too. From junior and bunk beds to wardrobes, good-sized desks, and bookshelves (Do you remember this dolls house?)

If you like their timeless, minimalistic style for your interior, I really think you should check them out. Everything is very reasonably priced, too. And if you already know the brand or have them in your house, then this is even better news: any upgrades and growing children can easily be catered for now.

Which is great news, especially if you are already familiar with the brand and love their style. Now you can easily move on to beds, wardrobes and desks for bigger children and stay with your favourite brand.

Let’s have a look at Petite Amelie’s latest additions. We have the bookshelf and desk that you can see on the 2nd image and both immediately found their place in our house.

What do you think? There will be a time when your little one needs a single bed and/or a children’s desk to concentrate on doing their homework or to relax. And if space is an issue, you can find these really clever space-saving solutions with the bunk beds and desk combos.

Talking about desks, a kids desk in the bedroom is a real ‘must have’ for children from about 6 years old. For doing homework, but also if they wish to draw, do crafts, paint, build Lego, or play on a marble track, it is a very practical and multi-functional piece of furniture for your little one.

How to make multiple bed layout Work – 6 shared kids room ideas!

shared kids room

Today’s Interior Tuesday is about shared kids rooms. Why? Because most families, especially the city based ones, do not have space to have a room for each of their children. And great ideas on how to make a shared kids room work are always wanted.

We downsized with our move to London and actually have three of our four children in one room. So I know a fair part about sharing a room. It is a topic I have in my drafts for a Genuine Friday (because there is a little story to it), but at this moment Romy (our eldest) has her room and we put the three others together. Moreover, it is not a very big room but it works. One day I will share photos of the house, but first, we need to get the lamps changed… which is just one of those tasks that always stay on the to-do-list.

Anyway, sharing a room with your sibling is fun, but often there are just not enough rooms in the house and sharing is the only way. Often the size and shape of the room will already give you an idea on where you place the beds. But why not taking a look at some different layout ideas to see if they could work for you too.

Because there are lots of fun and practical ways to make the most of a shared room. Therefore, here are six ideas:

Probably the most traditional layout: this layout has a nice symmetry and each child has an equal share of the room. I love how they decorated the two sides sop differently and yet they look so complementary way. Fresh, cosy and bright!

The beds and dollhouse are most likely from IKEA, the buntings* from Meri Meri as well as the pompom garland*. The cushions* and the yellow lamp is from Muuto.

Fitting two beds or more in a small space can be tricky and going up is a great solution. So with some DIY talent (or a good carpenter friend), a little imagination and creativity you can create something really cool.

Bunk beds do not always have to mean the typical one above the other thing as this space proofs! Take the ‘light’ IKEA bunks, get clever and create something cool. And these three boys really seem to really enjoy their space.

This was most likely designed by an architect but look how easy and smart these three beds look in this room. Like they are floating! And some smart storage was built in too and three girls have a very cosy room to share!

On first view this space does not look like it can sleep four children, doesn’t? Bunks have the obvious advantage of saving space. And kids love them too!

These are two Perch bunks* from Oeuf in birch. The light colour really helps to keep the room bright and open. The lower bed is independent, by the way, which means you can place it any way you want! Also, the ladders can be put on either the right or the left side of the bed. So the bunk really can adjust to your room!

Cushions and dolls are from Meri Meri*.

Last, this layout allows for more open space in the room. These are two toddler beds and I am guessing that a pair of twins is living here.

And? This bed is so cool isn’t? Feels a bit like a bunk on a ship…

Together with the Vintage wallpaper and did you spot the switches? So you can illuminate the box (light box) and that original lamp makes for a great reading lamp. Delightful!

The second children’s room belongs to a girl, I would say. And shows a beautiful Vintage bed that can be extended. A cool rattan chair, a beloved canopy and more cool wallpaper. The room is kept very clean and minimal. Very refreshing and simple!

I need to keep today’s article quick and cheerful because I had a busy morning and I am already off to another rendez-vous! See you tomorrow…

5 inspirational and cosy shared kids bedrooms

inspirational and cosy shared kids bedrooms
My own family is probably the best example why some inspiration on shared kids rooms is really helpful from time to time. With four kids in the house it is nearly impossible to give each their own space. And since we enjoy our playroom very much, it also makes one bedroom less.
And yet, of course, having a playroom also means that we have less toys and ‘stuff’ in the other rooms. Which makes it easier to do shared bedrooms.
In our house the set up is this: Romy, our eldest, has the smallest room and it is all for herself. We have a playroom and Antoine & Leonor share a bedroom. Our youngest, Josephine, still has her corner in our bedroom.

And for us a bunk bed was more or less the only solution. Putting two beds in here, we tried it for a little while just to see, took too much space and looked strange with the shape of the room.

But there are other options too. Of course.
I found five really great shared kids rooms. With different ideas and some even make space for four children. Maybe I should re-think our set up too. Getting my office back might be really cool. Ha, just kidding…

How is it in your house? Do the kids sleep in separate rooms or do they share?

Side by side. Cute room with storage baskets under the beds and I love the giant world map. Definitely a great idea to look at our world and start dreaming about travels and places you visited when going to bed.
