Like a fairy tale – the De Gournay family home in London

De Gournay family home in London

Today we are going as far away from the Scandinavian interiors and design I often show you here on Tuesday as we possibly could. We stay in London and visit a very colourful home that could very well be part of a fairy tale.

Owners of this ‘Alice in Wonderland’ kind of place are Hannah De Gournay and her husband, Eddie Harden. Hannah is the daughter of De Gournay founder Claud Cecil Gurney. And Eddie owns and manages Nanhoron, a Welsh estate where his family has lived for some 700 years.

And since Hannah was brought up with these beautiful and colourful hand-painted wallpapers they were the first thing she decided on for every room of the house. Yes, every room is home to a different De Gournay wallpaper that became the starting point for everything else. Furniture, lighting, decoration, and mood.

The Victorian house in London’s Battersea neighbourhood was turned around completely to make it the perfect home for their family of 5. Let’s have a tour, starting with the kid’s rooms:

Why not bring Africa to your home? And how cool is that cute little canary-yellow built-in shelf?

And then there is the children’s bathroom, outfitted in a completely bespoke wallpaper featuring whimsical scenes such as squirrels skipping rope, foxes playing soccer, and mice pushing ice-cream carts.

I am pretty sure that many interesting stories and tales came up when looking at these wallpapers. From swimming with the turtles, to flying with the balloons, and watching the giraffes. Like I mentioned before – it is like a fairy tale in this house!

The other rooms are equally stunning (I am sure you did not expect otherwise) and so full of details.

More about De Gournay:
