Little Birdy Mobile DIY {guest post}

Hanging mobile
Jennifer from Scamp hand made baby gifts shares a wonderful DIY project with us today!

Little Birdy Mobile – a bit of a wet weekend project with my little Scampette, Ava.

What you need:
Strips of scrap fabric
Thin Garden Wire (or an old wire coat hanger)
Small Amount of Toy Stuffing
Embroidery Thread
Felt
Sequins
Needle/Scissors/Pins

Making the heart:
Fashion a heart shape out of garden wire (or whatever shape you want)
Wind a piece of scrap fabric around the wire (leaving a length free at the start).
As you get to the end of the first strip knot a second strip together with the first strip.
Keep going with as many strips as you need until you get back to the start.
Knot the last piece of fabric to the beginning of the first fabric and snip any excess fabric away from the knots. You will now have a fully covered heart ready for your little birdy to hang inside.

The Little Birdy:
Cut out two birdy shaped pieces of felt and two wings.
Remember to position the wings on opposite sides of the felt (see the photographs!)
Stitch each wing on to the bird’s body using either normal thread or if you want it to be a bit thicker, embroidery thread, using running stitch (or be inventive with any other stitch you like!)
Sew a sequin on to each of the bird bodies – Ava stitched hers by sewing through the sequin hole twice and had thread going over onto each side.
Place the two birds together (wrong side to wrong side ie so you can see the wings and sequins on the outside!) then start another series of running stitches. Leave approximately 3cm gap before the end.
Take some stuffing and poke it into the corners of the bird (you can use the end of a paintbrush to get the stuffing right into the spaces).
Once the bird is stuffed stitch up the gap and your bird is now finished. Make some more if you want to have extra flying birds!
Take a piece of embroidery thread and knot the end a couple of times. Stitch the thread through the first bird which will dangle at the bottom of the mobile.
Loop over the thread at the base of the heart and knot again so you can stitch through the second bird. Tie the thread off at the top of the mobile
{Thank you Jennifer – this is so sweet!}
