My youngest is 7, turning 8 in about three months. And as much as see her as the little one in the family, the truth is: She is not that small anymore. On the contrary; tall and quite a bit ahead of her peers by being the youngest of 4. And very cheeky!
No more toddler in the house, and, I admit it, I love it. I so enjoy being out of the small kids years where I had to bring all of them to everything. These days we can have nice and longer discussions, lay responsibilities upon them, get a clear yes or no for an answer, and do not need to bring a complete household when out and about.
However, growing means needs are changing, and not only clothes become too small. Luckily, one of our favourite interior brands for small people, Petite Amelie, started to grow as well and now offers a fabulous collection for older children too. From junior and bunk beds to wardrobes, good-sized desks, and bookshelves (Do you remember this dolls house?)
If you like their timeless, minimalistic style for your interior, I really think you should check them out. Everything is very reasonably priced, too. And if you already know the brand or have them in your house, then this is even better news: any upgrades and growing children can easily be catered for now.
Which is great news, especially if you are already familiar with the brand and love their style. Now you can easily move on to beds, wardrobes and desks for bigger children and stay with your favourite brand.
Let’s have a look at Petite Amelie’s latest additions. We have the bookshelf and desk that you can see on the 2nd image and both immediately found their place in our house.
What do you think? There will be a time when your little one needs a single bed and/or a children’s desk to concentrate on doing their homework or to relax. And if space is an issue, you can find these really clever space-saving solutions with the bunk beds and desk combos.
Talking about desks, a kids desk in the bedroom is a real ‘must have’ for children from about 6 years old. For doing homework, but also if they wish to draw, do crafts, paint, build Lego, or play on a marble track, it is a very practical and multi-functional piece of furniture for your little one.
Hurra! Are you ready for another Friday list full of slight Autumn vibes, back to school inspiration, beautiful things for mums and lots of interiors I fell in love with over the last weeks?
Are you?
Get ready!
But before, how was and/or is your summer? I hope you could relax a bit and spend some quality family time. I will soon report from our trip to Madrid and share some places with you, because it is a great place to go as a family.
There are 26 lovely things to discover, to read, to get, to bookmark… enjoy:
Perfect Back To School pieces from Buho this season.
Hej Hej! How are you? 2022 continues to be challenging… inflation, Ukraine, crazy housing markets, broken supply chains, and so on… now, we do need to stay positive. Find our way through it!
My two eldest are 12 and nearly 15 (yes…!) and I am enjoying the conversations we have now. It is so different and fun. And also interesting how they receive and see world news, and the questions that come up from them. If your children are still little, I can confirm that you have some amazing times to look forward to. Promise!
Now, to bring you something light and fun, I compelled a very long Friday List (really proud that I managed to get it together for the last Friday of April!) for you! Enjoy:
1. Alte Zachen / Cicada
This is a powerful, affecting and deceptively simple story of Jewish identity, of generational divides, and of a restless city and its inhabitants.
2. Explore the Rain Forest / Little Gestalten
Beloved characters Emma and Louis go on a trip to the wildest nature of our planet.
3. Let’s play indoors / Little Gestalten
A book that offers imaginative and resourceful ways to keep kids amused and inspired with games, crafts, and home-styled costumes inside the house.
4. Penny the mirror / Little Gestalten
Mirrors have it tough. They never feel like they are doing a good job, because when people look in the mirror, they (almost) always say bad things. But mirrors have feelings too, you know, and they take it personally.
OMG! These vases* are so adorable. Perfect little gift (or for yourself of course)….
Size is not the most important factor when it comes to designing a great children’s room. A small space might challenge your creativity a little more, but can easily turn into a very smart and well-thought-out room nonetheless.
We all want our kids to have a bright, uncluttered place to play and do homework. But it is often the smaller or oddly-shaped rooms that become kids’ rooms, especially when living in bigger cities.
Fear not, with a little bit of inspiration and the small children’s room ideas below, it can be easy and inexpensive to turn the tiny space into a fun, stylish, and organised retreat.
And it is important to start with the essentials – a bed and storage. Once you have nailed that part, there are plenty of opportunities for charming decorations to add personality. Altogether, there is nothing to stop you from making sure your children have a lovely space for both rest and creativity.
How to start:
As mentioned above, a bed and storage units are the main things in a room. And a tiny room will really stop you from adding unnecessary things and get you acquainted with the “less is more” lifestyle we are all after very quickly.
When it comes to furniture, go for something that can grow with your child and adapt to changing needs. Personally, I would always suggest neutral colours and timeless designs. In that way, you can enjoy them for many years to come.
Below, I will give you some inspiration but also share more details about organisation, colours, and storage ideas:
How to organise a clutter-free small bedroom:
Make use of the space beneath the bed! First of all, floor space is very precious in a kid’s room. Because it is the building zone for lego, trains, fairy lands, and general hours of fun. Either opt for a bunk bed, a bed with a matching under-bed storage unit, or build your own. And secondly, the low level means little ones can access what they need (and hopefully tidy away too) easily. In a small room, you want to keep the footprint of the bed small and smart.
Invest in multi-purpose furniture. Think beds that expand with age, desks that double as bedside tables, and a chair that can be used both by mum for a bedtime story and by your child for homework or crafting. There are many brands with solutions and interesting concepts. Have a look here or here to get started. Extra tip: Always measure carefully when ordering furniture and hunt down a piece that matches your measurements as closely as possible.
Less really is more. When space is a problem, you will need to prioritise what your child needs and what they don’t. And that is not a bad thing. Quite the opposite. It is so easy to get drawn into the kids’ world and buy everything influencers hold in front of the camera or get sucked up by clever marketing. But does your 1-year-old really need a guitar, a climbing wall, a swing, and 3 different play mats? Cramming too many things into a small room is a sure-fire way to feel claustrophobic.

Space-smart storage ideas:
In a small room, built-in storage can be a life saver. You will use wall space that you would not use otherwise. Whether it is a full wall or just a small section, you will create plenty of storage potential. Because freeing up the floor space not only makes the room feel bigger, it creates valuable space for little ones to play, as mentioned above.
Another smart and low-footprint piece of furniture is a bench with hidden storage inside. Saving floor space and providing value for money.
Peg-boards. They look great, and can be easily re-arranged, and make for an adjustable storage solution. For example, the space over the bed is often used only for wall art and stickers. Now, place a peg rail over it and your child will be able to leave books or pyjamas on there. Another perfect area is above the desk. Here you can attach pencil pots, lamps, and even a tiny house plant. That way, the desk has plenty of space for them to do their homework.
You want the room to be as bright and crisp as possible. Opt for light and neutral colours and lots of natural light – if possible. Again, dark colours or patterned wallpaper can overwhelm a small space very quickly. Go neutral and add touches with accessories. Extra tip: Bare floorboards make a space feel more spacious than it actually is. And it gives you the option to play around with rugs for added warmth and comfort.
Altogether, bright colours, storage under the bed, and a smart furniture selection make for a delightful room.
The perfect example for built in wall storage! I think it looks great. I always love a great built in shelf.

Wow! This is such a smart use of space, even the steps include a storage drawer! Goals!

Very tiny space but looking very stylish with the monochrome scheme. A desk is built in next to the bunk bed leaving empty floor space to play and roam around!

What do you think? A small space can really turn into a delightful and creative space. And it can be really cosy as well.
We are going into March already but let me quick share the trends of 2022. Because today I will give you some great inspiration plus things to match the biggest trends of this year. Enjoy!
So, what’s hot in 2022? Emerald Green is the colour of the year and one of my all-time favourites. It is just so elegant and pretty. Punk Pop is back and I love it. Further we have the mythical thing going strong with dragons and fairies.
For interiors it is all about Statement Lighting. I love a good lamp. Lights make such a difference to a room. The lamp itself to the design but high quality lamps also have high quality light which is just another level of GOOD.
And another great thing to do in 2022 – work with me. I can boost your Digital Marketing, organise a fantastic event and/or be on your side to launch your dream.
Now, here you go with some of my current favourites that fit the 2022 trends. And I actually added a little bonus trend below as well. Find it:
Who would have thought that a salmon pink home can be that amazing?

Talking about great lamps, loving this one in Sara’s & Rasmus’ living room.
Punk Pop is definitely more chic these days. Which is great because it means I can get away with it… still… totally in love with these two tops: black mesh top & sheer with amazing sleeves!

One thing I love to buy wherever I go is tableware. Therefore our table is always colourful and a wild mix. This shelf (and the whole apartment) made my heart jump!
