Print or Solid

Print or Solid

Print or Solid? It is a good question, isn’t? Some days we feel more colourful and like to wear a good print or stripes in quirky colourways. And then there are days where we like it subtle and simple.

Ashlyn feels the same and that is why she named her cute children’s wear brand ‘Print or Solid‘. Because she often struggles between using beautiful printed fabrics and simple solid ones. She needs both – prints and solids – and is constantly trying to find the balance.

‘I love creating my own garments that are one of a kind. And I enjoy using natural fibers for my garments, and I like to mix unexpected colours and patterns. I am a sucker for a maxi dress and gingham prints.’

Aren’t those handmade clothes adorable and special?

They are all designed and sewn by Ashley herself. That rainbow romper* is so cute and I can totally see it as a perfect party outfit that your little one will keep wearing afterwards.
And do not forget, those rompers are easily paired with tights, long sleeves and/ or a cardigan for chilly days.

And that pinafore*? With that banana print and gold corduroy?  Awwww…
There are more corduroy dresses in that gorgeous colour and with cute Peter Pan collars! Just sayin’…

Sunshine clothes for your child’s summer wardrobe from Lulaland

lulaland kids clothing

Lula is a ray of sunshine. Lula is from Buenos Aires, creating and designing in Brooklyn, New York and one of the warmest people I know.

We meet twice a year, during Playtime Paris, and this kind and adorable woman makes me always giggle a lot and my love for small brands and designers grow a little more.
And all that sunshine and passion you can find in her collections. Lulaland was started in 2014 and is full of romantic and folkloric garments made from organic cotton. It is colourful, bold and full of life. Really refreshing, super comfortable and so happy.

Not too serious, mismatch, quirky and full of cool details. Basically everything I love and look for when I want something special for my children. And, especially during summer, a child’s wardrobe should have at least one very cool outfit. The one that makes you happy, that makes you get dressed in the morning and twirl along the sidewalk.

I normally wanted to shoot this little series outside, but the weather is so unpredictable around here and then we had busy plans for the lovely Easter weekend that I went ahead and did it inside. (but I know that some of you spotted some pieces in my IG stories already)

But either way, I certain that you can feel the dazzling fun these pieces create!

Good to know: With a design studio in Brooklyn, lulaland work with people around the world and have a base in India, aiming to create a global village. Using hand picked and hand dyed fabrics and a selection of original prints, every collection is unique, and every season an evolution.

My children wear:

Antoine: Gingham culotte & striped shirt

Leonor: Maxi Dress (in the softest and lightest maxi swiss dot cotton in a fresh shade of pink and white) and Flamingo print skirt & woven top

Josephine: Amapola dress (I adore that print!)

For Europe, your best shopping destination is Smallable*.

mini me or kids wear in adult sizes

mini me kids wear for mums

How often did you say: “I wish this came in my size!” or “My kids are better dressed than me…”. Don’t despair, here are the best mini me looks!

Small clothes are cute and yes, some pieces we really want for ourselves. Children’s fashion changed a lot over the last years and we can find some amazing brands. And the mini me trend is not going away and more and more brands are adding adult lines or at least a few pieces for mums and also dads.

Obviously you cannot just make any style that looks super in a child size for adults. Mostly because of our shapes but also because some prints might be too girly, or just too cute for a women even when they look adorable in size 62.

For today, I picked out a few brands that do pieces for mums too. Pieces we really want and can wear… mini me looks for this summer here we come:

Louise Misha

Louise Misha* started in 2012 and very quickly their boho style was adored by little girls and mums alike. The collections are always sweet, delicate and very feminine! And the collection for mums* is getting bigger and bigger each season.

Numero74

Numero74* – what once started with deco accessories has became a brand for every part in our lives. Including fashion. Staying true to their style pieces are simple and comfortable. And each piece is made from the softest cotton materials and in a very special colour palette of lightly washed-out shades. Affordable and so comfortable. Sizes for mums are here*. Personally I think this really is T H E mini me look.

Little Creative Factory

Clothing for children aged from 0 to 99! This is what Little Creative Factory* offers. Original collections, attention to detail and definitely one of the brands you wish would dress you too. And they do! This summer Cristina launched her women line* and it was is a big success.

Bonpoint

Bonpoint* has been a leading brand in the kids fashion sector for over 40 years. Ultra-chic and always on point with the sophisticated French look! Before they used to have a teen line called YAM and the sizes fitted adults as well. But, as of now, Bonpoint has a collection dedicated to women* too. (I love this ultra chic yet simple navy dress*!)

Louis Louise

Louis Louise* is another classic in the French children’s fashion world. Chic, timeless, modern and relaxed. The brand adds some pieces for women* for every collection, and especially for summer the dresses and tops are divine!

Your favourite brand when it comes to soft, organic clothes in subtle colours – Poudre Organic*. What started with babies has grown into a brand for the whole family. Slowly adding bigger sizes and now catering for mums* too! The latest collection is very lovely and we really want one of those comfy dresses for ourselves.

Bonton

Bonton is always on my list when in Paris. Of course I could shop online but I love their stores so much that I need to step in. And their fabrics, colours and silhouettes are famous and kind of iconic. You can never go wrong with something from here for your children*. And, the brand joined the mini me trend too and designed a few pieces for adults* as well.

Le Petit Lucas du Tertre

le petit lucas du tertre
To be honest I am a little bit confused what came first for Le Petit Lucas du Tertre. I was knew it as a children’s brand* with the most wonderful colours and prints. A whole world of flowers, ikat and precious fabrics. And the adult pieces* I only discovered recently. And they are just as gorgeous. So in case you are looking for something special, this is it!

By the way: I really prefer their mini sizes and I am not a big fan of the maxi versions but have a look for yourself and decide – Bobo Choses Women*.

Overall, what do you think about mini me looks? Would you wear it? I believe some looks are really great and if you do not like the matching look, you can just wear them on their own.

Earthy chic and Brooklyn cool children’s clothes

soor plom

It is always a pleasure to discover the new Soor Ploom collections. This cool Brooklyn brand, created by New Yorker, Marissa Buik, does the best between classic, chic and contemporary.

Pieces that your children can and will wear for years to come and that never go out of style!

Beautiful sustainable children’s clothing with a vintage charm that I adore. Made from high quality fabrics and designed and manufactured locally. Which makes everything even better.

Clothes that last forever and that are made with an emphasis on ethical production and eco-friendly techniques. This is where you can invest a little more, because Soor Ploom’s pieces transcend trends to create irresistible children’s fashion essentials.

The new Spring/ Summer collection just landed in stores and it is selling fast. The brand definitely has a fan base:

soor plom

And? What do you think? Light, sweet and gorgeous summer wardrobe staples in sublime colours and prints.

It is hard to decide on a favourite but my heart is with the playsuits. In baby sizes but other models are also going up to size 8/9, like this amazing jumpsuit* for example.

soor plom
Also, I love to see the colour green. It is so fresh, neutral and comes in many great shades.

This is a good place to shop the collection* in Europe.

PS: Wikipedia says that a Soor ploom (Scots for “sour plum”) is a sharp flavoured, round, green boiled sweet originally associated with Galashiels, Scotland.

PSS: If you like this style, I am sure that love these sweet basics from Sunna Studios as well.
