Best books for kids – by Kenny Friedman

best kids books

Kenny lives in Chicago and writes on smonk you.
He has a son and makes sure that Twitter is a fun place… or one to go to when you need a little break from all the “important” stuff.

Here are the 5 favourite books Kenny chose:

1: An Awesome Book by Dallas Clayton
It’s such a wonderful book about dreams… I remember the first time I read it to Miloh when he was about two. I teared up a little. I think there’s greatness in there for kids and adults. It’s still one of his favorite books.
Also: There is a photo of Dallas Clayton, the author, on the back. Miloh says he’s his friend. Also it used to be when you bought one he gave one to a kid or library that needed books. But I’m not sure that’s true anymore.

2: Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book by Dr. Seuss
I like it because it puts Miloh to sleep. He likes it because of the bug that starts it all. Miloh has divided the book into three sections. The yawn part, the sport part and the sleep part. He sometimes only wants to read one part.

3: Life-Size Zoo
It’s a fantastic book because it is a series of photos of animals at their actual size… Sometimes you see a whole animal, like the hedgehog, other times you see a little more than an eye, like the elephant. It has great info in it. And Miloh loves learning about the animals especially the red panda.

4: The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr Seuss
Miloh likes this because he loves the part where the sneetches keep going in and out of the machines. I like it because I’m really anti-hate and this is a good book to teach kids to not to stereotype different types of people. Plus in the story Too Many Daves that’s in the book there is the name Oliver Boliver Butt and really that’s a fantastic name.

5: Q&A a Day for Kids
This is more of a question and answer book than a story or such. But what I love is you ask your child a question a day. Then do the same on two different years. We’re just a few months in so it’s year one but it will be awesome to see how Miloh’s answers change as he gets older.
