This February I finally met Shirley. As a true knit lover and fan of small brands I already adored her brand. And meeting the person behind it is just such a fantastic moment.
And Shirley is, just as you could imagine when looking at her designs, a warm and sincere woman and mother. Trying to juggle motherhood and entrepreneurship. So passionate about her label and developing things that her customers will love.
Shirley Bredal was established in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2006. The collection is developed from Kathmandu, Nepal and Shirley splits life between the two cities.
‘We incorporate old Danish knitting techniques into our styles, yet all styles can be mixed and matched with skinny jeans and tutu dresses. We love the mix.‘
The gorgeous items, that will become heirloom pieces for future generations, are made from pure natural materials. Vintage inspired garments in beautiful soft colours. Like this star romper, made from 100%merino wool, it is perfect for Spring. Or the bubble sweater in dusty pink – perfect for cold days or as a ‘jacket’ for summer evenings.

All designs have old traditions and techniques in mind. Craftsmanship and charm and yet Shirley Bredal manages to give them a modern and young face. Choosing beautiful colours, fun details and developing gorgeous designs like the LEO cardigan that I absolutely adore.
All the hand knitted pieces are knitted at the homes of women in Kathmandu. The talented women are paid well and work according to Fair Trade principles. Slight variations may appear but these just bring a little more life to each item…
