We are at La Rochelle… or better … we were last week.

We have never been there before and I am glad we decided to go. What a lovely area and so many things to do and see. Great beaches, islands, cities, villages…

One thing you probably heard about La Rochelle is the aquarium.

Leonor is fascinated by fishes – we had to go. Another great decision because it is well worth the visit. During the peak season {July&August} the aquarium is open until 11pm every day. We heard it can be super busy so we decided to go in the early evening… and that was quite nice… relaxed, busy but not too much and we had a great time.

Saturday was rainy day but we still decided to go and visit Ile d’Oleron.

Again… August is mega peak season in France and you need to bring some patience. We did ok but traffic to get on the Island was heavy. {the more famous Ile de Re… I do not even want to imagine…}

Above, the view from the castle on the island on a cloudy and rainy day…

But of course, just like in every little and not so little corner of France, we found a carousel …

And just when you enter the island and drive up to the castle you go through a little arty village with lots of colorful houses. So pretty and home to many exhibitions, ateliers and sweet cafes!
