week end breakfast with Paul & Paula

Breakfast with Paul & Paula
… oh I love Saturday morning breakfasts… one of the best things… it’s the week end, it’s “clock free” {no checking the time because you need to be at school on time etc} and we have time to sit as long as we like and enjoy the first hours of the week end…

That is why I usually try to get some extra yummy things like fresh juice, strawberries, a little treat like banana bread and whatever else takes our fancy…

What do they have for breakfast: They’re not really breakfast people, they take their breakfast begrudgingly most of the time but for some reason the humble rice crispie, without sugar seems to do it for Reuben and occasionally a chocolate pancake for Anya. They both have dairy intolerances so we use Almond milk in their breakfasts.

What do you (and daddy) have for breakfast: Daddy is usually up and off in the morning but when he’s around at the weekend he can be found making tea and rounds of (lactose free) cheese grilled bagels for everyone.

What do they have for breakfast: on a normal day mostly fruits, or a little yoghurt. she usually has breakfast in kindergarten. on weekends she has also fruits and yoghurt, with a toast. she has a very strange taste and eats the weirdest things: butter-cheese toast with marmalade and dips it in her yoghurt :)

What do you (and daddy) have for breakfast: I have a light cappuccino because I don’t like coffee so much, and some fruit and daddy has fruits and veggies, all raw…I guess we know where Kayla gets her weird taste from :)

Family breakfast:
Typically, breakfast is a bit of a rush as the kids eat a quick bowl of cereal or oatmeal and my husband and I eat something light before heading to the gym, so on the weekends we like to take time to slow down and eat a nice big breakfast together. Every now and then we get a craving for southern biscuits, a staple if you come from the southern USA like we do. They can be filled with sausage, bacon, and eggs or eaten with a light touch of honey, but either way they always need a good smothering of rich butter first. Sometimes I let the kids choose their favorite such as chocolate chip pancakes or blueberry muffins but they always want boiled eggs and some fruit, too.

Your kids name+ age: Jamie, 2

What does she have for breakfast:
When we ask Jamie in the morning what she would like to have for breakfast she ussually screams: HAGEL (Dutch for fruit sprinkles). Of course we can’t do this every morning ;) She also loves Dutch cheese on a slice of bread and sometimes she gets a bowl of fruit on the side.

What do you (and daddy) have for breakfast: I can’t start the day without my café latte XXL), which usually goes together with a bowl of fruit or a simple sandwich. My husband on the other likes to have a very extensive breakfast : al large cup of tea, muesli with yogurt and fruit or a large grilled cheese sandwich. In the weekend we always try to have nice family breakfast with some homemade croissants, French toast, boiled or scrambled eggs and some fresh fruit. Jamie loves to get a piece of everything and she always seems to take care the table ends up looking like we had breakfast with 10 kids ;)
