Best books for kids – by Melissa Wang

best kids books
Melissa is the brainchild behind Eden & Zoe and these two girls are the ones she is reading these books to. Eden (6 years), Zoe (4 years) and Melissa live in San Francisco/US.

Melissa is such a warmhearted person and I am always looking forward to see her next steps with her young label!

1) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Roald Dahl

– We absolutely love reading Roald Dahl’s stories – they are so entertaining and hilarious. We also love Quentin Blake’s illustrations.

– This is Eden’s favorite book – she says “I loves all the different kinds of candies and the Oompa Loompas are really funny”.

– We went to see the musical in London last summer which was fantastic.

2) I will Never Not Ever Eat A Tomato (Charlie & Lola) – Lauren Child

– We also enjoy the Charlie and Lola books. Lola reminds me so much of Zoe! I have read the books so many times. We also watch the cartoons, which are great.

– This is Zoe’s favorite book – she says “I like Lola. She is cute. I also don’t like tomatoes!”

3) Madeleine and the Bad Hat – Ludwig Bemelmans

– The Madeleine series is wonderful with amazing illustrations – especially of Paris! The stories are humorous and Madeleine is a girl with her own mind (not too unlike my girls!).

– Both Eden and Zoe like this book – Zoe says “The Bad Hat is like a boy in my class! I always run away from boys!”

4) Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity – Mo Willems

– We completely identify with the Knuffle Bunny books because Eden has her own toy cat which she feels the same way about. She can’t sleep without her cat and it goes everywhere with us (it is an extremely well-traveled cat!)

– Eden says “No one has the same cat as me! Yay!”

5) Tiddler The Story Telling Fish – Julia Donaldson

– We also love books by Julia Donalson – including The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Highway Rat etc.

– Eden and Zoe both love Tiddler, the story telling fish and his adventures. It was a great way for them to learn about creatures in the ocean and a very charming story.

– Favorite catchphrase: “Tiddler? Tiddler? Tiddler’s late!”. You don’t know how many times this has been said around the house!
